All I can say is WOW!Aug 31, 2010 Disclaimer: I work for the company that sells these.
This is probably my favorite thing that we sell. I love telling people about them, I love using them, I love giving them as gifts. In fact, when my mother-in-law visited, I showed them to her. She tried them out and now that's what she wants for Christmas.
I had never heard of ceramic knives until I started working here. However, I took a set home to test them. I've washed them numerous times in the dishwasher, taken them camping, and everything else that you would do with any quality knife. These are sharp and they stay sharp. In fact, it takes diamonds to sharpen them. They stay sharp 10 times longer than steel. Plus they weigh less and even cost less than equivalent steel knives.
The question that begs to be asked is "do they break?". If you drop it and the tip lands on something like a ceramic tile, yes, the tip will chip. The knife will still be usable but it will be chipped. However, the same problem exists with steel knives- if you drop them and they land on a ceramic tile, they are likely to also bend the tip or crack the tile. To be sure, dropping knives is NOT a good idea but how many times have you dropped your nice knives? I've been using mine for several months now and I haven't had a single problem.
If you buy one thing this year, buy these ceramic knives. It's a purchase you'll use often and you'll absolutely LOVE!
