Has Very Noticeable Flaws You Should Be Aware of Before PurchaseFeb 07, 2009
By J. Anderson I got this stand to use on my Gateway 7805u Laptop. My impressions are:
PROS:
- My Gateway 7805u Laptop fits on the stand pretty well
- It's black and matches the "look" of my laptop better than my old silver Rocketfish non fan stand
- It has a USB hub built in
- It has two fans
CONS:
- It's made out of a very cheep looking and cheep feeling plastic
- It's packaging looks and feels like something you'd get at a thrift store, it has no printed instructions and mine arrived with a screw popped loose in the bag
- The stand itself is uneven and it "wobbles" when touched. This is caused by it having two "feet" in the center as well as four "feet" on each corner. The center feet, due to warping or bulging in the plastic cast, sit lower than the corner feet so when the stand does not have a laptop weighing it down it has a massive "wobble" to it. With my relatively heavy 17" laptop sitting on it the wobble is not as noticeable, but it is still there.
- The actual benefit of the two fans is yet to be seen. I ran a few stress tests with my laptop on my old stand and on the new stand with the fans running and saw very little actual change in the operational temperatures.
- The fans are not -loud- per se, but they are definitely audible and you can tell they are running even in a room with the TV going and other ambient noise.
- The USB Hub fails to be recognized by my laptop every other restart and the devices attached to it always fail to be recognized by Vista (logitech mouse and keyboard). The only "fix" is to unplug the USB hub and plug it back in letting Vista require it, which is a pain.
- I had to move my Logitech illuminated USB Keyboard back to one of the laptop's built in USB ports because Vista simply refuses to "see" it when plugged into the hub
- The stand's fans are powered by the USB hub. The stand has an AC adapter plug in port but DOES NOT come with the adapter, so you MUST have one free USB port on your laptop to power the hub and the fans
Final Verdict:
I don't think this is a BAD product but be aware that it is most definitely NOT a "high end" well finished accoutrement for your laptop. It looks cheap, it feels cheap, it's wobbly, it's fans are not as whisper quiet as one would like and it has definite Vista connection issues when used as a USB hub. All that aside, the main reason I bought this stand was for the two fans in it and because it was a black stand that I felt would better match my Gateway laptop's gloss black finish. I am mildly disappointed in the noise level of the fans and on my first tests the temperature control gain from the fans is not as good as I was hoping. I am also mildly disappointed in the cheap "plasticky" matte black finish of the stand, it better matches my laptop by the sheer luck of being black but when you see the gloss black of my 7805u's bezel next to the shoddy matte black of the stand there is still a definite "look" clash
All in all I am not totally disappointed (yet) but at the same time I am far from impressed. I personally feel this stand is NOT worth $40. If I had to buy it again I wouldn't pay over $20 MAX. And even then know what you are getting into before you buy as you may be far less forgiving than I am over this stands numerous flaws.

Very Quiet Laptop StandAug 06, 2008
By John I've seen a few laptop fans before, but this one was very quiet. It even hard to hear if the air conditioning was on.
The USB hub is a nice addition so I can plug in my keyboard.
It came with the USB cable to attach the computer to the USB hub and power for the fans.
It swivels a little bit, which I'm not sure it was meant to do that, but since I type with my external keyboard, it's no problem.
You can lower the stand enjoy so that it is comfortable to type without an external keyboard. It's also nice that the stand can collapse completely so I can put it in my bag and take it with me if I need to.
The stand should fit laptops 15" and under, I'm not sure about 17" laptops.

Wobbly Stand, Quiet FansOct 02, 2008

The stand is extremely wobbly--it does not topple over, yet the unnecessary motions of the computer on the stand creates various inconveniences whenever I type. The fans, on the other hand, work well and are very quiet. 17'' laptops are definitely discouraged from entering into a relationship with this stand (i have a 15''4).

WOW..... that about sums it upAug 14, 2008

"Big Mac"
If you look at some of my past reviews I have reviewed a lot of other laptop stands which I do love. There was one that was an adjustable stand and I loved that product and still do then there was one that was just a cooling pad with built in fans, and it worked great and loved it also. Well this product combines those two concepts into one and I la la la love it! That is actually an understatement I just cant think of anything better to say. Well lets start off with the fact that the fans are amazingly quiet and the fans work excellent. One of my favorite aspects though is the USB hub, my laptop only has four USB ports and for me thats not enough, I plug in my mouse, keyboard, flash drive, and my iPod. I have no room to plug in the stand so the fact that it comes with more ports is a very nice feature for me. In closing I would like to say that this product has made my life better! I know it sounds cheesy but I really enjoy this product and use it to the fullest.

I really like this standJan 28, 2010
By Subyman Don't let the bad reviews keep you from buying this product. I had no such problems with this item. I really like how the stand is adjustable. I never typed with my laptop placed at an angle and it feels great. The fan, I wouldn't say is very quiet, but it is not distracting. It sounds like those mini fans you place on a work desk. I noticed a difference how my laptop doesn't get as hot as it did without it. The extra USB ports and on/off switch is definitely and added bonus. It doesn't wobble at all. One minor thing I noticed was when I opened my laptop when the stand is set on the flat position is the laptop slid to the side, but I fixed that by placed rubber adhesive tabs towards the top of the stand.
Great product!
